To achieve the Pursuit of Excellence Award, NFDA-member funeral homes must demonstrate proficiency in key areas of the funeral service profession by fulfilling a set number of criteria in six categories of achievement. Participants must show their commitment to: Complying with state and federal regulations; providing ongoing education and professional development opportunities for staff; offering outstanding programs and resources to bereaved families; maintaining an active level of involvement within the community; participating and actively serving in the funeral service profession; and promoting funeral home services through a variety of marketing, advertising and public relations programs.

As funeral directors, we are part of a meaningful profession. We have been called to care for families in our community during their most difficult times and, in turn, have been deeply impacted by the significant path we have chosen. For many funeral directors, there comes a time when they decide to give back to a profession that has served them well – to find a way to preserve it for future generations.

Devoted entirely to the betterment of the profession, The Heritage Club is a charitable organization dedicated to honoring the past and shaping the future of funeral service. Its sole purpose is to ensure that there will always be scholarship funds available for educational endeavors that benefit the future of the profession.

All of the club’s annual earnings and charitable gifts are allocated to funding. Donations and grants over the years have supported a variety of efforts, from the National Museum of Funeral History and Arlington National Cemetery to educational opportunities like ABFSE and the inaugural NFDA Embalming & Restorative Arts Seminar.
