William Stepp

William Bradford Stepp, 92, of Huntsville, Alabama; passed away Monday, February 12, 2024, at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was born Sunday, June 28, 1931, at Pettigrew; to William Abner and Martha Holland Stepp. Bill was a military veteran and served during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged from the Army he attended the University of Arkansas where he received a degree in Geology. After college, he worked as a civilian in the department of defense. He traveled with his job quite extensively and often spoke of his travels. He eventually settled in Huntsville, Alabama and worked for Redstone Arsenal. This is where he met his wife Jean “Nellie”. He became a stepfather to James Sams and his three older brothers Scott, Richard, and Robert. Bill loved to fish, search for Indian arrowheads, and collect rocks. He also loved to tell stories and reflect on his life. Bill was a kind and gentle soul and was there for anyone that needed help. William was preceded in death by his parents, William and Martha Stepp; his wife, Nellie Jean Stepp; one stepson, Robert Sams; his sisters, Opal Williams, Ola Brandenburg, Robbie “Rita” Ficht, and an infant sister; two brothers, James Stepp, and an infant brother, one nephew Bruce Williams; one niece Shirley Singleton and her son Rod Judy. He is survived by three stepsons, Jamie Sams, and fiancé Julia, of Somerville, Alabama; Scott and Mary Sams of Washington; and Richard and Joan Sams, of Huntsville, Alabama; five nephews, Don and Margaret Ann Williams, Terry and Ann Williams, Jim Eaton, Troy Brandenburg and Bill Brandenburg; three nieces, Carolyn (Virgil) Edgmon, JoAnn (David) Laubach and Sheila Williams. He is also survived by three step-grandchildren: Rachel Sams, Forrest Sams, and Craig Sams; three grandnieces, Heather Lawrence, Jean Ann Kimbrel and Holly Sanderson, and a grand-nephew, Jon Bradford Williams. Graveside Service will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Pine Grove Cemetery with Devin Bivens officiating. Pallbearers will be James Sams, Forrest Sams, Terry Williams, Lance Bradford, and Jon Bradford Williams. Services are entrusted to Brashears Funeral Home and Crematory of Huntsville.
