Wava Cox

Wava Dean Cox, 85, of Redfield; passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at Huntsville. She was born Friday, April 10, 1936, at Russellville; to Timothy Earl and Holland Bonnie Dedmon Bowden. Wava was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, and friend. Wava spent her childhood on Crow Mountain working alongside her family on a sweet potato farm. She graduated from Russellville High School and furthered her education at the University of Arkansas and Memphis State University. Over the years, she worked in multiple departments for the State of Arkansas. She retired from the Department of Computer Services. Wava was an avid hunter and fisherman. She would often say, "I would rather hunt or fish than eat when I am hungry". She enjoyed planting and tending her beautiful flower beds, often sharing starts with neighbors and friends. She happily volunteered her time planting the church flowers each year. She was very active in the Redfield community. She was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Co-founder of the "Silver Streaks" where she organized trips for the local senior citizens, and volunteered for many events in her community. Over the years, Wava attended both the Redfield and the White Hall United Methodist Churches. She was a strong Christian woman who spent hours studying scripture and delighted in sharing her faith with others. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She attended many sporting events, recitals, plays, and birthday parties. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Ina Jean Crites, a brother, Arnold Bowden, and a nephew, Barry Crites. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Lois Cox of Springdale; a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Gary Atha of Fayetteville; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, as well as many beloved nephews, friends, and neighbors. The family will receive friends 5:00 PM-7:00 PM, Friday, July 30, 2021, at Brashears Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 31, 2021, at Bowden Cemetery in Pottsville with Tony Quinn and Kin Maddox officiating. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Atha, Chris Cox, Bill Copelin, Syd Miller, Alex Toombs, and Jeff Bowden. In lieu of flowers, donations in Wava's memory may be made to Redfield United Methodist Church, PO Box 232, Redfield, AR 72132 or White Hall United Methodist Church, 300 Church Dr., White Hall, AR 71602. Services are entrusted to Brashears Funeral Home and Crematory of Huntsville.
