Johnny Lyndell Hunter, 76 of Mulberry, Arkansas passed away Sunday, May 17, 2026 in Alma, Arkansas. He was born January 21, 1950 in Boston, Arkansas to Olaf and Irene Jackson Hunter. Johnny was a graduate of St. Paul High School and the University of Arkansas. He was a lifelong democrat and a christian. Johnny was a member of Mulberry Lodge #272 and a proud 32nd degree Scottish Rite mason. He dedicated 37 years to education, serving for many years as principal of the Kingston Schools before spending the final 20 years of his career as principal of the Mulberry Schools. He was deeply respected by his students, coworkers, and community for his leadership, kindness, and commitment to education. He served others selflessly, never seeking recognition, and generously gave his time, talents, and resources to those in need and to the betterment of those around him. Johnny loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, canoeing, and arrowhead hunting. He also had a passion for cooking, traveling the world, and cheering on the Arkansas Razorbacks. Above all, he treasured the time he spent with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Kendall Curtis Hunter; one daughter, Michelle Lea Hunter; one sister, Sherida Easterling; and one nephew, Steven Easterling. Johnny is survived by his significant other of 19½ years, Kay Friedly; two sons, Jeffrey Hunter and husband Page of Foster, Rhode Island; and Nathan Hunter of Mulberry; two daughters, Vanessa Hunter and wife Tessa of Fort Worth, Texas; and Mary Beth Hunter of Bella Vista; one daughter-in-law, Brittney Hunter of Fort Smith; eight grandchildren, Ginavieve Hunter, Pyper Hunter, Noah Hunter, Ryder Hunter, Jacob Hunter, Lucas Fancher, Kali Fancher Mains, and Kadin Fancher; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother-in-law, Larry Easterling; two nieces Becky Nelle and Larae Harvey; one nephew, Keven Easterling; and many other family and friends. An initial visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Shaffer Funeral Home in Ozark. The family will then receive friends during a second visitation from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Friday, May 22, 2026, at Brashears Funeral Home. Graveside Service will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Boston Cemetery with masonic rites by Huntsville Lodge #364 Free and Accepted Masons. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to the Dana Higdon Memorial Scholarship, Mulberry/Pleasant View Schools Education Foundation, 424 Alma Avenue, Mulberry, Arkansas 72947; or the Parkinson's Foundation with a Tribute Donation. Services are entrusted to Brashears Funeral Home and Crematory of Huntsville.
