Jerry Mia Dyke, 90, of Elkins passed from this life in peace on April 10, 2019. He was born February 23, 1929, in Thompson, Arkansas; to Simeon Briggs and Mary Elizabeth Kennedy Dyke. At the age of four, his family "moved up on the mountain." He attended Mountain View school. Jerry always finished what he set out to do, whether it was his job, working the farm, raising livestock, or living off the land. No matter what it was, he was determined to finish what he started; and he did it well, too. He worked various trades, as a water driller, heavy equipment operator, cop, fire fighter, at Campbell Soup feed mill, and as a driver for Willis Shaw. He believed in strong work ethics and providing for his family. Jerry enjoyed sharing entertaining stories of how he grew up and the experiences of his life and the life of family and friends. He knew a lot of local history and could tell you specific details. He loved watching old westerns and was an avid Arkansas Razorback fan. He never missed a game unless it was after his bedtime. In February this year, he celebrated his 90th birthday, surrounded by family and friends. We fondly remember how often he would say, "Thank you kindly." Jerry is survived by loving companion, Patricia Dyke; and his six sons and daughters-in-law, James and Terri Dyke of Huntsville, David and Sylvia Dyke of Las Vegas, Nevada; Michael and Shelly Dyke of Moab, Utah; Douglas and Teri Dyke of Elkins; Matthew and Mary Dyke of Macclenny, Florida; and Jerry and Amanda Dyke, II, of Elkins. He was the proud grandfather of Elizabeth and husband, Dave; Esther and husband, Matt; Stephen and wife, Cindy; Rebecca and husband, John; Darren and wife, Alyssa; Mike and wife, Jenni; Skylar, and Emily. Jerry is also survived by fourteen great-grandchildren, and was dearly loved by nieces, nephews, and many other close relatives and friends. The family will receive friends 10:00-11:00 AM, Monday, April 15, 2019, in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home and Crematory in Huntsville. Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 AM, with Reverend Jasper Hankins officiating. Interment will immediately follow services at Mount Olive Cemetery in Elkins. Services are entrusted to Brashears Funeral Home and Crematory of Huntsville.
