Floyd James Ficht

Floyd James Ficht, 89, of Kingston; passed away peacefully Sunday, September 6, 2026, at Circle of Life Hospice, Springdale. He was born Saturday, November 7, 1936, at Boxley; to Albert Adolph and Virgie Elsie Norris Ficht. He loved square dancing and spending time outdoors, especially squirrel hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed making homemade wine and moonshine, a reflection of his independent spirit and traditional ways. Floyd was a kind and helpful man who was well loved and respected by all who knew him. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and was a friend to many, with a gentle nature that left a lasting impression on those around him. He was a longtime and cherished member of the Kingston and Pettigrew communities. Floyd also took great pride in tending a large vegetable garden, especially his watermelons, which he was well known for growing. Floyd will be remembered for his hardworking nature, generous heart, love of the outdoors, and the many ways he brought joy and kindness to the lives of those around him. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Ficht and Elsie Virgie Carson; brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Paula Bowles; and a sister, Sharon Thatch. He is survived by his wife, Fern Ficht, of Pettigrew, two daughters, Marsha Shaver and Melva Howard, both of Fayetteville; four grandchildren, Layce Uhl, Marla Shaver, and Garran Shaver, all of Fayetteville, and Cristen Hamilton of Springdale; seven great-grandchildren, Michael Law Jr., Nicholas Law, Derek Law, Hailey Stout, Layten Vice, Kane Johnson, and August George; one great great-grandchild, Hunter Law. He is also survived by three sisters, Bertha Thurlow of Brighton, Colorado, Iva Jean Hutsell, of Walla Walla, Washington, and Freda Lutz, of Mariposa, California. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM, Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Brashears Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 10:00 AM, Friday, September 11, 2026, with Craig Villines officiating. Pallbearers will be Nathan Davidson, Robbie Root, Dawson Kimball, Garran Shaver, Cristen Hamilton, and Marla Shaver. Honorary pallbearers will be Sammie Smith, John Fancher, Freddie Ficht, Johnny Wyatt, Conchita Wyatt, Ricky Fancher, Janice Sabatini, and Robert Sabatini. Interment will immediately follow services at Mount Olive/Ficht Cemetery, Kingston. Services are entrusted to Brashears Funeral Home and Crematory of Huntsville.
