William Auther Frederick, 90, of Prairie Grove; went to be with his Lord, on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Willard Walker Hospice, Fayetteville. He was born Sunday, April 30, 1933, at West Fork; to Chester Auther and Beulah May McCleland Frederick. William married Catherine Jewel Cooper on November 29, 1988. Throughout his lifetime, he engaged in various occupations. He spent numerous years working at the Deep Rock Station on Razorback Road at Highway 62; and retired as a custodian for the University of Arkansas. William had a fondness for baseball in his younger days, and instructed his nieces and nephews on batting and other aspects of the game. He was the go-to guy for help with car repair or anything mechanical for the nieces and nephews. He helped keep their cars running. William grew up in a time when if you couldn't grow it or make it you did without. As children, William and Cecil would go to find the milk cow by listening to the tone of the bell around the cow's neck. William and Cathy loved to garden and always had a big prolific garden. They loved to share their bounty with the neighbors. William always said Cathy grew the biggest tomatoes in town. He also enjoyed woodworking, hiking, fishing, and hunting. William shared his love for hunting with his brother Cecil and his nephews. A devoted husband to Catherine, William was known for his unwavering patience and kindness, never speaking ill of others. As he grew older, he found companionship at the Senior Center in Prairie Grove, and he cherished his friends there. William spent many hours at the Prairie Grove senior center where he loved to play beanbag baseball and card games. He looked forward to seeing his friends at "The Center" as he called it. William was a faithful attendant of New Sulphur Free Will Baptist Church and will be missed by his church family. The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to Willard Walker Hospice for their compassionate care during William's final days. William was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Catherine Frederick, his parents, Chester and Beulah Frederick; two sisters, Mary Ellen Smith and Laura Bell Sybrant; one nephew, Willie Ross Smith; and two nieces, Carla Gene Dugan and Annette (Annie) Meaders. He is survived by his stepson and step-daughter-in-law, Carl and Kim Johnson, of Ozark; one brother, James Cecil Frederick, of Farmington; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 1:00-2:00 PM, Monday, March 4, 2024, at Brashears Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM with Danny O'Neal officiating. Pallbearers will be Carl Johnson, Tom Smith, Greg Johnson, Steven Johnson, Kevin Johnson, and Chris Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Rob Bottoms, Zac Bottoms, and Doug Sybrant. Interment will immediately follow services at Riverside Cemetery, Saint Paul. Services are entrusted to Brashears Funeral Home and Crematory of Huntsville.
