Jerry Chester Hawkins, 91, of Huntsville; went to join his wife to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, December 9, 2024, at his home in Huntsville surrounded by his loved ones. He was born Tuesday, May 16, 1933, at Huntsville; to Elmo Barth and Carrie Reed Hawkins. Jerry married Wanda Louise Griggs on Friday, September 26, 1980, in Huntsville, Arkansas. Where he became a stepfather to Quinton and Laura. Together they raised three children: Marcia, Natasha, and Jerry Blake. In his youth, Jerry attended Fullerton Junior College in California where he would complete Associate in Arts and worked for Hunt Foods as a loader. After his studies, he served in the United States Army from June 1956 to June 1962, retired from the United States Postal Service after 23 years, and was a cattleman. In his earlier years, he helped his parents run the Kozy Korner Cafe and was also an accountant for Basham Tires. Jerry had a love for woodworking, nature, and animals. He enjoyed reading history and western novels and was a big fan of John Wayne. Known for his great sense of humor, Jerry appreciated comedians and loved music, although he was not the best singer. He was a dedicated family man through and through and would give the shirt off his back to anyone if they needed it. He is rejoined with his beautiful wife, Louise, just in time for Christmas in Heaven. He was surrounded by loved ones at his time of passing and passed peacefully in his sleep. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Louise Hawkins and his parents, Elmo Hawkins and Carrie Reed Cox. He is survived by two daughters, Marcia (Charles) Duplanti of Huntsville, Natasha Hawkins (Jonathon Owens) of Farmington; one son, Jerry Blake (Sarah) Hawkins of Huntsville; one step-son, Quinton (Carolyn) Meek of Huntsville; one step-daughter, Laura (Dale) Coberley of Cedarville; and 11 grandchildren: Dusty and Stephanie Weems, Audrey and Josh Gresham, Elwyn Monroy, Kayleigh Umana, Brianna Umana, Zack Duplanti, Katelyn Duplanti, Cody Meek, Isaiah McMillon, Justin Harris, and Julie Marion; 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his trusted companion and champion dog “Pork and Beans”. The family will receive friends 5:00 PM-7:00 PM, Thursday, December 12, 2024, at Brashears Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Friday, December 13, 2024, at Brashears Funeral Home with Chaplin Rex Griffin officiating. Pallbearers will be Dale Coberly, Stevon Grindstaff, Cody Meek, Elijah Meek, Isaiah McMillion and Gage Bookout. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles and Marcia Duplanti, Natasha Hawkins and Jonathon Owens, Blake and Sarah Hawkins, Elwyn Monroy, Zack Duplanti, and JC Thomas. Interment will immediately follow services at Huntsville Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Brashears Funeral Home and Crematory of Huntsville.
