Gene W. Shinn

Gene W. Shinn, 85, of Huntsville, Arkansas, died April 4, 2011 at Meadowview Healthcare and Rehab in Huntsville, Arkansas. He was born October 21, 1925 at Saint Paul, Arkansas, the son of Clement Earl Shinn, Sr. and Mable Jewell White Shinn. He retired from the United States Marine Corps after more than twenty-three years of service and was a veteran of World War Two, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. After his retirement he owned and operated the Sears Catalog Store in Huntsville for twenty-five years. He was active in his community as an alderman on the Huntsville City Council, City Clerk, Mayor and Fire Chief. He served on many local boards and commissions including the Huntsville Memorial Hospital. He was a life member of Hayes-Smith Post #137, American Legion and Post #10,021, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-seven years, Jean E. Montgomery Shinn on January 11, 2011. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister-in-law, Earl Shinn, Jr. and Vera Reed Shinn and Harry F. Shinn and one brother-in-law, Jim Montgomery. Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Deb Shinn of Huntsville, Arkansas; one grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Jeremy and Taci Shinn of Huntsville, Arkansas; one granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Jocelyn and Andy Sills of Farmington, Arkansas; one great-grandson, Weston Sills of Farmington, Arkansas; one great-granddaughter, Mallory Sills of Farmington, Arkansas; one brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law, David E. and Bev Harwood of Turlock, California and Pattie S. Shinn of Huntsville, Arkansas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P. M. Thursday, April 7, in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home with The Reverend Eldon Bagwell officiating. Interment will be in the Huntsville Cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home www.brashearsfuneralhome.net of Huntsville, Arkansas. Pallbearers will be: Mikel Reed Shinn, Jeremy Shinn, Kevin Shinn, Andy Sills, Kim Tipton and Charles Hudgins. Honorary pallbearer will be Goddard Burkes. Memorials may be made to Harry F. Shinn Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of Pattie Shinn, 208 Cain Street, Huntsville, Arkansas 72740.
