Alvin Allen "Smitty" Schmidt, 77, of the Flemings Creek Community near Combs, Arkansas, died October 3, 2008 at the Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He was born September 12, 1931 at Marion, South Dakota, the son of John and Tena Ratsliff Schmidt. He was a retired electrican and a member of the Crosses Community Church. He was a life member and past Master of Huntsville Lodge #364, Free and Accepted Masons, a member and past High Priest of Huntsville Chapter #154, Royal Arch Masons, a member and past Illustrious Master of Huntsville Council #77, Royal and Select Masters, a member of Saint John's Commandery #36, Knights Templar at Huntsville and a 32th degree Scottish Rite Mason in the Western Arkansas Scottish Rite Bodies at Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Dolline Bivens Schmidt, whom he married on September 23, 1950 at Quartsite, Arizona and who preceded him in death on July 28, 2008. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ed Schmidt and Harold Schmidt and by two sisters, Mable Minks and Mildred Graber. Survivors include: three daughters and one son-in-law, Jeannine Masterson and Jeanette Glenn, both of the Flemings Creek Community and Paulette and Gerald Duncan of Springdale, Arkansas; four grandsons and one granddaughter-in-law, Brian Bivens and Allen Bivens, both of the Flemings Creek Community, Dustin and Erin Duncan of Overland Park, Kansas and Cody Duncan of Warner, Oklahoma; two granddaughters and one grandson-in-law, Paula Masterson of Baldwin, Arkansas and Melinda Masterson and Bill Riggs of Yellville, Arkansas; eight great-grandchildren; two nephews and eight nieces. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P. M. Tuesday, October 7, at the Crosses Community Church with The Reverend Bill Wagoner officiating. Interment will be in the Crager Cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home www.brashearsfuneralhome.net of Huntsville, Arkansas. Pallbearers will be: Brian Bivens, Allen Bivens, Dustin Duncan, Cody Duncan, Anthony Lewis and Chris Lewis. Honorary pallbearers will be: Paula Masterson Melinda Riggs, Casey Carroll Shawn Bivens and Joey Carroll.
