Jerry Dean Van Winkle, 77, of Hindsville, Arkansas, passed away March 20, 2012 at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale, Arkansas. He was born November 29, 1934 at Spring Valley, Arkansas, the son of George and Myrl Sharp Van Winkle. While a young child the family moved to the Mayfield community where he attended school. On June 10, 1955 he married Shirley Teters. After a long battle with cancer, she preceded him in death in 2003. He served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1964. He returned to Mayfield to help out on the family farm. In 1966, Jerry and Shirley bought land around Brush Creek and started their own farm. Jerry held a variety of jobs in town, but nothing compared to being a farmer. So a farmer he was until 1990. They then sold the farm and moved to Springdale, Arkansas. He started working for the fertilizer plant in Huntsville until health problems got the best of him. They purchased land in Hindsville and built a home there. He spend many hours working in the yard and garden. If he was not found at home, he was probably at an auction or somewhere playing dominoes. He was of the Baptist faith. He will be missed by his wife, Ruby Van Winkle of the home; his daughter and son-in-law, Sherrie and Bruce Fink of Springdale, Arkansas; his grandaughter, Bethany Fink of Fayetteville, Arkansas; his grandson, Shane Fink of Springdale, Arkansas; two stepdaughters and stepsons-in-law, Brenda and Earl Talley and Beverly and Larry Borum, all of Fayetteville, Arkansas; four stepgrandchildren, Benjamin Cate, Jason Cate, Shane Cate and Bradley Talley and wife, Kim, all of Fayetteville, Arkansas and his best friend, Raymond Sizemore. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A. M. Saturday, March 24, at the Spring Valley Baptist Church with The Reverends Brad Redding and Ernie Imler officiating. Interment will be in the Friendship Cemetery in Springdale under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home www.brashearsfuneralhome.net of Huntsville, Arkansas. Pallbearers will be: Raymond Sizemore, Johnny Carpenter, Mike Puryear, A. T. Smith, Truman Villines, Rex Homesley, Herb Jordan and R. C. Bolinger. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P. M. to 8:00 P. M. on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hyland Park Assembly of God Children's Park, 900 North Crossover Road, Fayetteville, Arkansas 72701.
