Ruby Davis

Born: March 29, 1923
Died: July 11, 2012

Ruby Davis, 89, of Manhattan, Kansas died peacefully on July 11, 2012 at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan, Kansas. She was born March 29, 1923 at Minatare, Nebraska, the daughter of Alex and Elizabeth Schafer Meininger. She lived a full, beautiful and remarkably selfless life. She followed, supported, loved and worked side-by-side with her husband, Gene Davis until he preceded her in death three years ago. Ruby, whom most of us knew as Grandma Ruby, was beloved by all who knew her. She was uncommonly selfless, kind, gentle and serving. She loved to serve her family in any way she could, and always cheerfully, pleasing her family with a variety of delicious and unusual traditional German foods and deserts. She was always the last one to sit down to any meal, and usually only after Grandpa Gene commanded "Ruby, sit down!" And she was the first one up to work on cleaning the kitchen, regardless of who's house she was in. Grandma Ruby enjoyed church fellowship all of her adult life, after becoming a Christian shortly after she got married. Though she was physically small, she was a warrior in prayer. She knw the value of work and modeled diligence and persistence, exemplified by the large productive vegetable garden she kept for decades. Grandma never complained. One morning, after a short and restless night, I asked her how she slept. She replied cherrfull with a song in her voice, "I slept when I could!" Grandma Ruby always saw the good in every person and circumstance, making everyone around her feel special. She will be missed by all who love her. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Dianne Dickie, three brothers, Clarence Meininger, Joe Meininger and Elmer Meininger and one granddaughter, Heidi Dickie.

Survivors include: one daughter and two sons-in-law, Elaine and Eric Wisdom of Manhattan, Kansas and Jim Dickie of Paola, Kansas; one brother and sister-in-law, Eddie and Kay Meininger of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; four sisters, Ruth Johnson and Freida Minch, both of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Rosie Benzel of Fort Morgan, Colorado and Bertha Smith of Rancho Cordova, California; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Madge and James Whittemore of Huntsville, Arkansas; twelve grandchildren and thirty-two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A. M. Saturday, July 14, at the Colbaugh Church with Pastor Jim Dickie officiating. Interment will be in the Colbaugh Cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home www.brashearsfuneralhome.net of Huntsville, Arkansas. Pallbearers will be: James Dickie, Phillip Dickie, Andrew Limbocker, Leroy Burke, Austin Dickie and L. J. Burke. Honorary pallbearer will be Travis Limbocker.

Memorials may be made to Zoe Children Homes, 23018 Oak Street, Santa Clarita, California 91344.
